At Uncle George's / Kod Ujaka Georga

Early Saturday morning the three of us left Hoboken, together with Will and Van, for a day trip to West Milford where our Uncle George lives. There we met up with Grandma and Grandpa Conway, Great grandma Lockwood and of course, the host George. The weather was beautiful. While everyone took a walk to the nearby lake, Emma and I took a nap to have enough energy to hike to the fire tower. The view from the tower was amazingly clear, all the way to New York City, well it got a little foggy-smoggy there :). We ended the visit with double roasted chicken dinner and vegetables from George's garden. Emma had so much fun that she could not stop talking about on our way home!

U rano subotnje jutro nas troje u drustvu Willa i Van smo se uputili u West Milford gdje ujak George zivi. Tamo su nas cekali Baka i Djed Conway, prabaka Lockwood i naravno George. Vrijeme je bilo prelijepo. Dok se ostatak drustva uputilo prema obliznjem jezeru, Emma i ja smo zaspale da skupimo dovoljno energije za planinarenje do vatrogasog tornja. Pogled s tornja je bio cist prema New Yorku, donekle cist ;) Posjet smo zavrsili sa dvije pecene kokosi i povrcem iz Georgova vrta. Emma se toliko zabavila da nije mogla prestat pricat cijelim putem do doma !

Court Street Restaurant and Bar

Last night Emma and I met Brendan after work and went for a short walk. It soon started to rain and we were a little thirsty so we stopped at the Court Street Restaurant and Bar. Court Street is located on the first floor of the building we live in, so it was just convenient to grab an ice tea and a beer. This was Emma's first "happy hour" :)

Sinoc smo se Emma i ja nasle s Brendanom nakon posla, te smo se malo prosetali po susjetstvu. Vrlo brzo je pocela padat kisica i mi smo bili malo zedni pa smo otisli u Court Street Restoran i Bar. Court Street se nalazi na prvom katu zgrade u kojoj zivimo, pa nam je bas bilo nekako usput da popijemo hladni caj i pivu. Ovo je bio Emmin prvi "happy hour" ili kako bi nono Nikola reko, "picence" :)

Hoboken Fall Arts & Music Festival

Twice a year the City of Hoboken organizes arts and music festival. One is held in the spring and one in the fall. First nine blocks of the city's main street, Washington Street, are closed off and various local vendors find their way to Hoboken. At the end of each block food vendors offer a stopping point to satisfy hungry bellies. In our case, Emma and I had Nutella filled crapes, while Brendan and our friend Matt had one of those lamb gyros. Even though the weather did not cooperate, it sprinkled a little, Emma managed to sleep her way through. Not even the stage music was loud enough to disturb the comfort of our newly acquired Babybjorn (Thanks to our friend Elsa!).

Dva put godisnje grad Hoboken organizira festival umjetnosti i muzike. Jedan se odrzava na proljece a drugi na jesen. Prvih devet blokova glavne ulice, Washington Street, su zatvoreni, te razno razni lokalni trgovci postave svoje standove. Na kraju svakog bloka, stand sa hranom ce zadovoljiti gladne trbuhe. U nasem slucaju, Emma i ja smo pojele palacinku s Nutellom, a Brendan i nas prijetelj Matt su narucili Grcki sandvic sa janjetinom. Iako vrijeme i nije bas bilo neko, povremeno je padala mala kisica, Emma je uspijela prespavati cijeli festival. Cak ni muzika s bine nije bila dovoljno glasna da je probudi iz komfora novog Babybjorna kojeg smo dobili od nase prijeteljice Else.

Last weekend Grandma and Grandpa Conway and aunt Becca came to visit Emma for the first time. They arrived very late on Friday night, but we managed to visit for few minutes. The next morning Willis and Van cooked breakfast for all of us, and we spent the day relaxing, competing for Emma's time and walking around Hoboken.

Prosli vikend, baka i djed Conway i teta Becca su dosli u prvi posijet maloj Emmi. Dosli su u Petak, kasno navecer te smo se uspijeli vidjeti na par minuta. Slijedece jutro Willis i Van su nam svima spremili marendu, te smo dan proveli odmarajuci se, natjecali smo se za Emmino vrijeme u narucju, te setajuci Hobokenom.

Emma Marie Conway

Well, Since Iva and Emma are recovering from the events of the day, this seems like a great time for me to post my first Blog entry....

Emma Marie Conway was born yesterday, September 3rd, 2008, at 9:47pm, in St. Vincent's Hospital of New York City. She joined us at 7 pounds, 10 ounces, just over 20 inches tall and hardly cried at all when she took her first breath. She has been extremely alert and responsive, and already has a look in her eyes that makes me feel like she knows more about the world than you or I could ever imagine. Iva is recovering exceptionally well and baby Emma has already successfully had her first dinner and a bath.

The photos in the attached album range from 4 hours prior to the big event to 1 hour after birth. I will post some videos when Iva is able to show me how (yeah... she's still better at this IT stuff than I am!?!?!). Don't worry... they're all rated PG, censored for obvious reasons, and were filmed in black and white to appeal to the "color" sensitive crowd out there. :)

Thanks to everyone for all of your continuous support! Our newly developing family is much obliged for the love and well wishes you that have extended to Iva, Emma and me!

Brendan's 29th birthday - Aug 28th

HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRENDAN!!!

So, for Brendan's birthday we went out for dinner with 11 of our friends to this cute Italian restaurant on 14th st and 7th ave. called "Primitivo Osteria"

It was really great to spend time with everyone. George was able to make it all the way from northern New Jersey. Laura called 2 hours before the the party telling us she'll come with her sister Anne; two of them drove from Connecticut, stopped for the end of Yankees game, who btw beat Red Sox, and joined us for dinner. Joacha and Mike were there, as well as Lauren and Vincent. Dave was quite "emotional" to every topic of discussion. Good thing we had large cotton napkins at the table! :) Willis humored us with his stories, and we all wish great time in Europe to Vanvien and Tai.

The meal was delicious. For appetizers we ordered: fried calamari, prosciutto in melons, fried zucchini, mixed deli platter and baked mushrooms. They say the wine was good; several carafes of house red and white wines were served. Some enjoyed additional cocktails (martinis, long island ice teas, nutty irishman / nutty professor). The main meal varied from swordfish and steaks to homemade pasta dishes. I can speak for the desserts, incredible... chocolate-almond cake with berry sauce was my personal choice.

So thanks to everyone who came. We had great time!




SRETAN RODJENDAN BRENDAN!!!

Za Brendanov rodjendan izasli smo u jedan talijanski restoran sa 11 prijatelja. Restoran se nalazi na raskrscu 14 ulice i 7 avenije i zove se "Primitivo Osteria"

Stvarno nam je bilo lijepo. George je uspio doc iz sjevernog New Jerseya. Laura me nazvala dva sata prije nego sta smo se trebali nac i rekla da dolazi sa svojim sestrom Anne. Cure su usput pogledale basebal utakmicu, u kojoj je New York pobijedio Boston. Joacha i Mike, te Lauren and Vincent su dosli. Dave je bio emocijalan na svaku temu razgovora. Dobro da smo imali velike platnene maramice za stolom! :) Willis nas je zabavljao sa svojim pricama, te smo svi pozeljeli Vanvien i Tai sretno putovanje u Evropu.

Vecera je bila jako ukusna. Za predjelo smo narucili przene lignje, prsut u dinji, przene zukine, mjesano meso te zapecene gljive. Svi su pohvalili vino, narucili su nekoliko bokala domaceg crnog i bijelog vina, a neki su jos pili raznorazne koktele.
Za glavno jelo narucili smo sve od ribe sabljarke i New Yorskih odrezaka do domace paste. A za desert ja bi definitivno preporucila cokoladnu tortu sa bademom i sosom od sumskog voca.

Za kraj, hvala svima koji su dosli, bilo nam je super.

Another awsome beach day...

We left early in the morning, 7AM, to beat that NJ beach traffic. We succeeded... it took us only 1.5 hrs to get to Island Beach State Park This is a beautiful, non commercial, 10 mile long beach in New Jersey. Willis, Van and Tai treated us with a beach breakfast (various fruits, coffee, tea, pop-tarts! and chips to snack later). Lauren and Vincent joined us a little later with their adventurous spirits and gave Brendan a short lesson in surfing.

Krenuli smo rano ujutro, oko 7 sati, s namjerom da izbjegnemo guzvu na autoputu. Uspjeli smo... trebalo nam je samo sat i pol da stignemo do Island Beach State Park To je predivna, nekomercijalna, 10 milja = 16.09km duga plaza u drzavi New Jersey. Willis, Van i Tai su ponjeli dorucak (razlicito voce, kavu, caj, pop-tarts! i cips za prigrist tokom dana). Lauren and Vincent su nam se pridruzili malo kasnije sa svojim avanturistickim duhom, te su dali Brendanu malu lekciju surfanja.

Long time ago, back in May of 2008, Trent (7) and Riley (4) Gagnon (our nephews) decided that the day to celebrate all the "sons" needs to be invented... It took them 3 long months to organize the very first Holiday. This second weekend in August seemed appropriate to gather our family and enjoy summer festivities.

Jos davne 2008, u mjesecu Svibnju, Trent (7) i Riley (4) Gagnon (nasi necaci) su odlucili da netko treba stvoriti dan kada se slave svi sinovi... Trebala su im 3 duga mjeseca da organiziraju ovaj blagdan. Druga nedjelja u Kolovozu im se cinila najpovoljnija da se skupi nasa obitelj, te da zajedno uzivamo u ljetnim radostima.
